Overview
1 1/2-2 1/2", lavender blue flowers stand tall on strong, slender stems. A dramatic addition to any bouquet or garden. Also known as mourningbride.
Planting
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost on soil surface (don't cover seeds—they need light); or direct sow after last frost once soil reaches 60°F
Growing
Sun: full. Water: low. Soil: Well-drained, fertile loam with pH 6.0–7.5; amend heavy clay with compost and peat moss. Space plants 12" apart. Germination: 7-14 days.
Pests & diseases
Common pests: Aphids (minor), spider mites in hot, dry conditions (occasional). Common diseases: Powdery mildew (in humid conditions with poor air circulation); root rot (from overwatering).
