Overview
First-year flowering perennial. Well-branched plants produce spikes in dark blue, turquoise, or white. Tall plants may benefit from support - stems can lodge or topple in heavy rain or wind. Attracts bees and butterflies. Often grown as an annual. Perennial in Zones 3-7.
Planting
Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after last frost. Seeds require light to germinate—do not cover.
Growing
Sun: partial. Water: moderate. Soil: Well-drained soil, adaptable to average conditions. Space plants 12" apart. Germination: 7-14 days.

Common pests: Aphids, spider mites, slugs. Common diseases: Powdery mildew, root rot in poorly drained soil.
